Do you know that...
Aspartame is a low-calorie sweetener, which is approximately 200 times sweeter than saccharose. It is unique among low-calorie sweeteners because it metabolises completely in the human body into single compounds – amino acids, aspartic acid and and phenylalanine. These elements can be found in much higher amounts in common food, such as meat, milk, fruit and vegetable and they are used in the body in the same way no matter if they come from aspartame or from common food.
Aspartame was discovered in the year 1965 by James M. Schlatter, a chemist, who worked for G. D. Searle & Company.
